This is how the thermostat is able to read and regulate heat. An important thing to note about a bimetallic thermostat is that it is not as accurate as a digital model. The temperature can vary by as much as 5 degrees from the target set point. However, some people prefer mechanical thermostats because of their affordable price and easy-to-use on/off switch.

How to set the thermostat

Here are some useful tips on how to use your thermostat.

These metal disks are designed to have a fairly large surface area, allowing them to react quickly to heat. The gas in the bellows will expand and contract, controlling the circuit and heating it accordingly. While this sounds complicated, from a user's perspective, all you need to do with the thermostat is set the desired temperature, and the mechanical parts do the rest!
